Here are some fun things to do in Oakville, Ontario this winter! Enjoy our suggestions for activities, shopping and dining in the city.

SKATING AND SKIING

During the winter, the beautiful city of Oakville in Ontario offers many fantastic options for visitors to enjoy the fun of skiing and skating. Whether you’re just looking for a relaxing day or want to participate in a competitive activity, the town has it all. And with the incredible views of Lake Ontario and a variety of ice rinks, it’s easy to find something that suits your tastes and budget.

One of the best places to enjoy a day of skiing or skating in Oakville is the Trafalgar Community Centre. You can rent skates from there, as well as attend workshops for ice dancing, figure skating, and learn-to-skate lessons. There are also outdoor skating lights in the park until 8PM.

The town also offers a variety of trails to explore, including Bronte Creek Provincial Park, which has trails for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice skating. If you’re traveling with young children, be sure to find an ice rink where they can be supervised by older kids.

For the ultimate in ice skating experiences, check out Skate Oakville, one of Canada’s largest skating clubs. In addition to offering learn-to-skate and ice dance classes, the organization also provides a variety of competitive training for singles, pairs, and synchronized skating teams.

OAKVILLE ART AND HISTORY

The Town of Oakville celebrates the creativity of our local artists through a variety of exhibitions. A unique aspect of this program is that the exhibitions are open to the public, free of charge. It is funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Oakville Community Foundation.

An exhibit of the history of the HMCS Oakville is being featured at the Oakville Museum. This prestigious naval ship participated in a significant Second World War battle. As such, the officers and crew were honoured as citizens of the town. HMCS Oakville’s bell is a symbol of the spirit of the ship.

There is an exciting new exhibit at the Oakville Galleries. This Winter Edition of the Beyond Art Box weaves a variety of messages about staying connected to loved ones and staying creative. It includes art supplies and activities.

An exhibit of works by local artist Gerry Quinney is also being displayed. His style is contemporary, with a variety of mediums. He enjoys mixing digital media with analogue photography. Currently, he is studying Technical Production for Performing Arts Industries at Sheridan College.

OAKVILLE MOVIE THEATRE

The Phoenix Stage Company of Oakville was selected as a participant in the AACT (Association for the Advancement of Community Theatre) competition. Not only were they able to showcase their talents, but they also got a hefty chunk of change in the form of a hefty grant. In the spirit of the competition, they’ve decided to keep the fun at a reasonable level and continue to make their mark as a newcomer to the throne. They’re also going to a few a few select newbies to boot. So, if you’re in the market for a new broom, you’re in luck.

OAKVILLE BAKERIES AND CAFES

The winter season is here and Oakville bakeries and cafes are ready to help you fend off the cold. These restaurants and cafes will not only offer warm beverages, but also delicious food. They are also introducing new items for the autumn season.

One of the most popular places to get a slice of pie in Oakville is Blondies Pizza. This Toronto chain specializes in hand-stretched dough using local high-protein Arva flour to help retain hydration for a chewy crust. Their pizza is best known for their pepperoni pizza.

Another place you might want to try is Vereda Central Coffee Roasters. This coffee shop is located in the Kerr Street Village and features a coffee and espresso bar as well as a retail section that sells bags of Colombian coffee and other goodies.

For something a little more upscale, try Cucci in the Bronte neighbourhood. This upscale Italian restaurant has been serving Oakville residents for over two decades. It has a stylish interior with a mural of pink flowers. A newcomer to the scene is Fluf Souffle Cheesecake. This Japanese-style souffle cheesecake offers a range of sweet and savory desserts, plus handcrafted drinks.

OAKVILLE RESTAURANTS

If you’re looking for a place to eat in the Oakville area, you’re in luck. There are several new restaurants in town to choose from. From oysters and ribs to fine Italian dining, these restaurants will please your taste buds. And their service is worth bragging about.

Mermaid and the Oyster: This restaurant serves oysters, cold seafood platters and lobster dishes. It also features savory salads, a selection of draft beers and cocktails. The menu includes a selection of Japanese-style souffle cheesecake. You’re sure to enjoy this cozy cafe.

Cucci: This restaurant is small and intimate, so you won’t feel rushed. The staff is warm and friendly, and the chef focuses on using local ingredients. They serve dinner seven days a week from 4 p.m. onwards. During lunch, they’re open Monday to Friday from noon to 2:30 p.m. Guests can take advantage of their award-winning wings and wine.
